I used to think that I was doing okay with my money as I had a good job and was earning a decent salary. I wasn't too bothered by the fact that I had two credit cards, some store cards, and an overdraft facility. After all, everyone has credit cards and debt, and I thought it was just normal. I even learnt the trick of moving money from one credit card to another, only to move it back again a few days later. Things continued for several years though without any major concerns. Until I moved to Cape Town.
That's when things fell apart! My credit cards and overdraft were maxed out, my bank accounts were empty, and I literally had no money to buy groceries. It was a scary realisation that even though I was earning a decent salary, I actually had no money.
Things needed to change! I needed to get my life in order and take charge of my money. I made a plan to deal with the immediate situation and needed to learn how to fix things. It was a dramatic turnaround strategy and I decided then and there that I'd never get into that situation again, and I haven't. I'm now completely debt free, own a property and a car which are paid for, and have healthy investments. I'm in such a different financial place to what I could ever have imagined was possible.
It's not an easy journey, but it's empowering and life-changing! I help people start this journey for themselves via my blog at Take Charge of Your Money, and I'd love to help you through this mentorship program
